Every class has it’s sample data pre-loaded on Amazon S3 which is then copied into the Hadoop clusters, as they are generated for a class.
Auto Cluster Spin-up & Spin-down
We have a mechanism by which gurus configure & launch clusters on Amazon EC2, as per the requirements of a specific class.
Once the cluster is up & running, students get a custom URL which when accessed, re-directs the students to their specific cluster where they input their previously provided user names & passwords and access their own individual cluster. Students can now access the master node using SSH (browser-based or desktop client) to run & execute jobs & other lab works.
The clusters are automatically killed at the end of the session to ensure no cost over-runs on Amazon EC2 charges & ensure data integrity.
Students have a simple mechanism for uploading their class specific components, data sets into their own cluster & executing them on their own Master node.
Monitoring Systems
Gurus have access to a web-based monitoring systems which informs them about the health of all clusters currently operational for a specific class.
